YapLink lets two or more people talk to each other across languages. When you speak, your phone sends the audio to our relay server, which translates it and sends the spoken translation to the other people in your room. This policy explains exactly what is handled and what is not.
Your conversations are not recorded. Audio and the text transcribed from it are held in memory only for the seconds it takes to translate and deliver them, and are then discarded. We do not write conversation audio or transcripts to disk or to any database. Captions shown on screen live only in your app and disappear when the call ends. Room codes and display names exist only while the room is in use, and the room is deleted after it is empty.
We use Microsoft Azure Speech as a processor to perform speech recognition, translation, and speech synthesis. Your audio is sent to Microsoft for that purpose. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement. We do not sell or share your data with anyone else.
Connections between the app and our server use TLS (wss://).
Credentials for the translation service are held only on the server and are
never placed in the app.
This should be obvious, but: anything you say while unmuted is translated and played to the other people in your room, and shown to them as a caption. Use the mute button when you do not want to be heard.
YapLink is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Because we do not retain your conversations or hold an account for you, there is no stored personal data for us to export or delete. Uninstalling the app removes everything it keeps on your device. If you have questions, contact us at the address below.
